French Pattern Chef's Knife, 10-inch Cu Mai

This chef's knife has a 10-inch blade of Cu Mai construction in a French pattern. 15N20 high carbon steel, copper and nickel were forge welded to a 1084 high carbon steel core. The blade was given an antique finish using a vintage rust bluing process. The octagonal handle is an emerald-dyed burl maple. The bolster/spacer is copper as well as the handle end cap. It was hardened and tempered to a 60-61 Rockwell.

This chef's knife has a 9-inch hollow ground blade in a Cu Mai construction. High carbon steel in 15N20, copper and nickel were forge welded to a 1084 high carbon steel core. It has a high polish finish. The bolster/spacer is faux ivory and the handle is stabilized burl redwood. It was finished with a neutral Danish oil in 3 coats and then a water-soluble satin poly-acrylic was applied in 3 coats. It was hardened and tempered to obtain a 60-61 Rockwell hardness.

Blade 07 – French-Pattern Chef’s Knife 8-inch Damascus Cu Mai

This chef's knife has an 8-inch French pattern blade. It is a Damascus Cu Mai construction made from 15N20, 80CrV2, and nickel forge welded and folded 64 times into a random pattern. Once the Damascus billet was made it was forge welded with copper and nickel to an 80CrV2 core. The bolster/spacer is twisted Damascus and the handle is a stabilized buckeye burl. The handle is finished with 8 coats of teak oil and hand rubbed to achieve an ultra-smooth, durable satin finish. It was hardened and tempered to achieve a 60 to 61 Rockwell hardness.

Blade 06 – Falcata (Historic Replica)

Falcata

This sword has an 18-inch blade and is 25 inches in overall length. It is a modern representation of a falcata. The falcata was the primary sword used by Hannibal's army as he threatened ancient Rome. It is a blade that greatly influenced the world's history. It was so feared by the Romans, that it caused them to modify their tactics, armor, and weapons. The blade is constructed of 1095 and 15N20 in 10 layers. It was patterned directly from a museum replica of an actual falcata found in the grave of a Roman soldier on the Iberian Peninsula. The blade features a fuller and a bronze handle with the pommel carved to depict a horse head. 6mm garnets decorate the handles body and 3mm garnets make the eyes of the horse head. This sword was named "Crooked Fang" and is currently on display in a private collection in Texas.

Blade 05 – Skinning Knife

Skinning Knife

This is a skinner patterned after my grandfather's skinning knife that he used during the many years he worked as a butcher. It has a 6-inch blade of Cu Mai construction using 15N20, copper, and nickel forge welded to an 80CrV2 core and heat treated and tempered to achieve a 61 Rockwell hardness. I call this a "soda pop" pattern. It was rust blued and features a copper bolster/button guard. The handle is a sambar stag crown piece with powdered turquoise in a resin base replacing the antler crown's pith. A spent copper 9mm round is pinned and epoxied to the pommel.

French Pattern Chef's Knife, 8-inch

This is an 8-inch French pattern chef's knife with an integral bolster constructed of 80CrV2, 15N20 high carbon steels and nickel. It was forge welded in a random low-layer Damascus and heat treated to achieve a 60 to 61 Rockwell hardness. The spacer is composed of red, white and blue vulcanized rubber fiber board with bronze. The handle is "bog oak" and this particular piece originated in the Ukraine and its lot contained examples carbon dated from 5,300 to 3,700 B.C. The handle was stabilized and finished with multiple layers of a water-soluble poly-acrylic.

Blade 03 – Damascus Sword

This sword is constructed of a 72-layer Damascus composed of 1084 and 15N20. It has a "T" spine and the blade is 26 inches long. The handle is black palm finished with neutral Danish oil. The sword has a hand carved bronze bolster/guard with large faceted deep purple amethysts. The pommel is a hand carved leopard head with 3mm garnets for its eyes. It was heat treated and tempered to approximately 60 to 61 Rockwell hardness.

Blade 02 – Nordic Pukko

Nordic Pukko

This is styled as a 3 1/2 inch blade Nordic Pukko that is of Cu Mai construction. Cu Mai was achieved by forge welding 15N20 high carbon steel, nickel, and copper around an 80CrV2 high carbon steel core. The handle is brass framed and has crimson and gold liners with a Marine Corp emblem mosaic brass center pin. The handle scales are Masur birch from Finland and were finished with 8 coats of teak oil and hand rubbed. It was heat treated and tempered to a 60 to 61 Rockwell hardness.

This is a 10-inch French pattern chef's knife that is an 84-layer Damascus composed of 80CrV2, 15N20 high carbon steel and Nickel forge welded to an 80CrV2 high carbon steel core with an integral bolster. It was heated and tempered to achieve a 60 to 61 Rockwell hardness. It has a stabilized spalted tamarind octagonal handle with bronze, gold and crimson spacers. It also has a bronze handle end cap with a 6mm faceted red garnet. The handle was finished with 8 coats of teak oil and hand rubbed.
