French Pattern Chef's Knife, 8-inch

This is an 8-inch French pattern chef's knife with an integral bolster constructed of 80CrV2, 15N20 high carbon steels and nickel. It was forge welded in a random low-layer Damascus and heat treated to achieve a 60 to 61 Rockwell hardness. The spacer is composed of red, white and blue vulcanized rubber fiber board with bronze. The handle is "bog oak" and this particular piece originated in the Ukraine and its lot contained examples carbon dated from 5,300 to 3,700 B.C. The handle was stabilized and finished with multiple layers of a water-soluble poly-acrylic.
